How Much Money Did The Movie Make At The Box Office?

The box office for the Blue Exorcist movie is 560,000,000 Japanese Yen or around 4.5 million dollars.

For most anime films, a box office of 4.5 million dollars is adequate.

However, Blue Exorcist was at its peak of popularity in 2013. Anything below 750 million yen is likely not that great for such a big title as this series used to be.

How much merchandise is there for Blue Exorcist?

There are more than 60 figurines, but most are low-quality and chibi versions. There are also more than 500 pieces of merchandise made for this series. That is a decent amount.

Blue Exorcist did well in getting merchandise and figurines. The issue is that most of it is from the first season, and only 20% is from the second season.

What Happened To Blue Exorcist Season 3?

Blue Exorcist Season 3 release date is so late because the second season was nowhere near as profitable as the first season was.

In 2023, this franchise makes less than 20% of what it did in 2014/2015. It’s a shell of what it once was.

Manga sales in 2023 are only around 30% of what they were in 2015, and no new merchandise has been released for this series for years now. The second season Blu-ray sales were also a disaster.

The official website and the official Blue Exorcist Twitter account are no longer promoting this series, as they should be if there were any plans to make a third season.

The main reason this series failed is that the first season had an original ending. Because of that, the second season came out six years after the first.

I don’t believe Aniplex ever expected the first season to do this well. There was no reason to go for the original ending.

To keep the majority of their fan base, most series release new seasons every two to three years. Anything more than that, and most series usually lose a lot of fans.

The second season was likely a test of the waters. It sadly failed to achieve anything close to what the first season did.
