With Father’s Day 2022 coming up and the final arc of the My Hero Academia manga approaching the climax fans are talking about the big reveal we’ve all been waiting for – who is Deku’s father and where has he been all this time? There are several theories about who Deku’s father really is from Son Goku All Might, Dabi, Endeavor, to All For One.

(The fun fan theory that Goku from the anime Dragon Ball Z is Deku’s dad comes from the idea that since Deku was born as a hybrid saiyan and he ended up being diagnosed as being quirkless, but in the end is still able to become really powerful due to his lineage. This would mean that Inko Midoriya and Son Goku had a fling that Inko is keeping a secret from Deku.)

Even though there are many popular fan theories surrounding Deku’s father there is one that has a lot of facts and hints throughout the manga to back it up. This is the theory that the villain All For One is Deku’s father.

If it turns out that All For One is Deku’s father then Shigaraki is basically his adoptive brother. That would make the final battles between Deku and the League of Villains even more heart-wrenching and complex! In my list, I will explain how this theory came about and give you the proof that All For One is in fact Deku’s father.

10. Horikoshi stated Deku’s father will be revealed

During the San Diego Comic-Con in 2018 Horikoshi stated that “Deku’s father will be revealed in the future”. It’s interesting to note he chose the word “revealed” and not “introduced”, which means Deku’s father is someone we already know, but don’t expect as being Deku’s father.

This statement got fans immediately wondering if Deku’s father might just be the villain All For One.

9. Deku’s father’s name means ‘A long time ago’

Deku’s father’s name was previously revealed as being Hisashi Midoriya. In Japanese Hisashi in kanji means “a long time ago”. This is a reference to the commonly spoken Japanese phrase “Hisashiburi” or “It’s been a long time since I last saw you”.

Since Deku’s father didn’t make an appearance when the story began and hasn’t been home recently, it makes the theory that All For One is Deku’s father plausible. All For One was being taken care of by his caretaker at the beginning of the series while Deku’s father was supposedly working overseas.

8. Deku’s father stole his quirk

One theory speculates that Deku’s childhood doctor, who could have been given All For One, used his quirk to steal Deku’s. This would make the doctor All For One, however.

The scene where Deku and his mother are shown visiting the doctor is pretty vague, however, and another possibility is that Deku’s father had already stolen Deku’s quirk and then the doctor examined him to discover that Deku was quirkless. This would make more sense if Deku’s father was All For One.

7. All For One might have the ability to breathe fire

After the scene where Inko and Deku visit the doctor in the anime and manga, Deku’s parents’ quirks were revealed, which could be foreshadowing. Hisashi’s quirk allows him to breathe fire, and so if we see a character breathing fire in the future that might just be Deku’s father. Inko and Deku visited the doctor alone when Deku was four, which lets us know that Hisashi had to have left his son when he was still very young.

6. Inko left Hisashi because he is a villain

Even though Deku’s parents may seem irrelevant to the story of how he became the #1 hero it’s still strange that he never talks about his father in the series. It almost makes it suspicious that he seems to leave out talking about his father altogether.

If his father was truly working abroad to provide for his family, you’d think Deku’s mother would make an off-hand comment to Deku every once in a while like, “We have all this food, thanks to your father,” or, “You’re able to attend school, thanks to your father”. Instead, it appears as though Inko may have had a falling out with Deku’s father, perhaps having found out he’s actually a villain and then she chose to raise Deku on her own.

5. Horikoshi is a fan of Star Wars

Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, is known for being a Star Wars fan. Horikoshi even illustrated a movie poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

If you haven’t noticed already some of the places or things in the world of My Hero Academia have been named after places in Star Wars, such as Kamino and Dagobah.

Deku has a lot of similarities to Luke Skywalker – they both start out as a “nobody”, and both have a strong sense of justice and love for their parents (in Deku’s case his love for his mother is apparent). But Luke and Deku slowly begin to make a name for themselves as they get stronger.

4. All Might is Obiwan

Deku and Luke’s lives both change drastically when a “trainer” suddenly comes into their life. In Star Wars, Obiwan shows up and trains Luke in the ways of the Jedi and teaches him how to use a light saber.

In Deku’s case, All Might trains him to become strong enough to inherit his quirk One For All. But, eventually, even All Might’s training isn’t enough to get Deku strong enough to face his enemies that are getting increasingly more powerful. All Might tells Deku that he will eventually have to face All For One, which is interesting to note since All For One has been All Might’s archenemy.

3. Gran Torino is Yoda

In Star Wars, Luke ends up having to find Yoda in order to take his training as a Jedi to the next level and master using telekinesis. When Luke finishes his training with Yoda he becomes a Jedi Knight.

In My Hero Academia, Midoriya trains under Gran Torino and has a breakthrough in controlling his power One For All and becomes even stronger with new attacks in his arsenal.

2. All For One is Darth Vader

In Star Wars, a member of the dark side, or Sith killed Obiwan’s master, and then Obiwan was forced to fight Darth Vader, who was previously his pupil, yet becomes his archenemy. Eventually, Darth Vader kills Obiwan.

All For One and All Might have been archenemies since the beginning of the series and their antagonism is very similar to Darth Vader and Obiwan’s. It’s interesting to note that All For One was responsible for the death of All Might’s master and a Sith was responsible for the death of Obiwan’s master. This could mean that Horikoshi has planned that All For One will eventually kill All Might in the final arc!

1. All For One is Deku’s father just like Darth Vader was Luke’s father

In Star Wars, Luke has to rise up and face Darth Vader but ends up losing a hand during that battle and discovers that Darth Vader is his father. If Horikoshi’s plan is to do something similar to Star Wars, in the final arc All For One will kill All Might, which will finally push Deku over the edge so that he will have the power to face All For One and defeat him in order to avenge his previous “father figure” All Might.

However, during this epic final battle, Deku will probably discover that All For One is his father but decide he has to defeat him anyway for the greater good. Although, it’s also possible another villain could be rolled out at the very end that will put Deku’s life in danger and All For One will be forced to sacrifice his life to save Deku and redeem himself.

Who do you think Deku’s father really is? Is the #1 hero really the son of the greatest villain of all time? Or is Deku’s father a fire-breathing hero that lives in America? Or, do you stand by Deku being Son Goku’s son and the Ultimate Saiyan? Let us know in the comment section below!
