The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace Season 2 is one of the most anticipated anime sequels. Fans are getting desperate to see its second season, especially after hearing the rumour about its renewal. It has only been months since the completion of the anime’s first season, but there is already a great demand for the following instalment. So, when will the series return with another set of adventures? Here is everything to know.

The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace (Heion Sedai no Idaten-Tachi) also known as “Idaten Deities”is a supernatural-action anime based on the manga of the same name by Amahara and as the author and Coolkyousinnjya as the illustrator. The anime was created by Studio MAPPA and aired from July 23, 2021, to October 1, 2021, on various local Japanese networks. Crunchyroll streamed the anime outside Japan and received a positive response from viewers for its engaging plot and well-written characters.

Will there be a second season of Idaten Deities?

As of writing, Studio MAPPA, publisher Hakusensha or any, other member of the production committee has not yet renewed the anime for a second season. Anime sometimes can take years to get renewed for a new season. However, it is possible to evaluate whether it will whether have a new season under some main factors. These factors are:

  • Availability of source material
  • Sales
  • Popularity

Let’s take a look:

Is there enough material available for “Idaten Deities Know Only Peace” season 2?

The Idaten Deities originally was launched as a web manga by Amahara in 2008 on the online platform Neetsha and is currently on an indefinite hiatus since May 2016 with 28 chapters published. In August 2018, Hakusensha’s Young Animal magazine launched a remake adaptation illustrated by Coolkyousinnjya (author of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid) which is still ongoing. As of February 25, 2022, five volumes have been published with a consistent release of a new volume every six months. The anime adapted all the content from the 5 volumes and even went as far as to adapt the available content from the web manga and ended on the same cliffhanger that Amahara left the web manga back in 2016.

Conclusion: unfortunately, currently the anime doesn’t have any material left to adapt for the second season and with the way 2 volumes are released every year, it will take at least 2-4 years for enough material to be available.

Manga Sales

Before moving ahead you will need to understand that most of the anime today created are mostly produced to promote and boost the sales of its source material (in this case a mangal). Sales generated through the sales of the manga and merch are their main source of income and the rest is treated as a side income in the form of advertiser fees, online streaming licencing, and Blu-ray.

Generally, a 12-episode anime television series usually takes about $ 3,000,000 to produce.

As of June 2021, the series has reached 100,000 copies for volumes 1-5

Conclusion: On average 200,000 – 5,000,000 copies is considered good so it is doing pretty bad in that regard. However, let’s not hope since the above count hasn’t been updated for a year and doesn’t even include the sales of volumes 5. After the anime boost, the new circulation number might have reached 300,000 on even more.

Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi’s Popularity in Japan and West

The Idaten Deities is pretty popular in Japan. It is one of the best selling manga for Young Animal magazine and one of the only 5 serializations to receive an anime adaptation other than March comes in like a Lion and Record of Grancrest War.

The debut run of Idaten Deities was very well received by the critics and the viewers. They praised this show for being even better than its source material at some points. Besides, the series received positive reviews from viewers all around the world and hence managed to get a decent score of 7.7 on MyAnimeList. It has more than 47k members in its MAL group is ranked at #1081 in popularity.

In conclusion, the series is quite popular in Japan and the West. Moreover, there is enough source material available currently and the series has made tons of money from merch sales, so it won’t take a long time to get a new season.
